HEIRLOOM FRUITS - (H) next to the fruit variety indicates it is an Heirloom

Andy's Orchard is a small fruit grower committed to growing and marketing fruits of superior quality. Heirloom fruits are still found at some fruit stands, farmers' markets and specialty markets. These venerated fruits from the past have distinctive, old-fashioned flavors but are rapidly disappearing from many markets and have become increasingly harder to find elsewhere. Such is the case with the 'Blenheim' apricot, the quintessential apricot with its rich, aromatic flavor but delicate texture. It is being replaced by very firm, mass-produced fruit with visual appeal but often without much flavor. Other old favorites that we continue to grow are 'Santa Rosa' plums and 'Elberta' peaches.

BALATON June 10 - 15

Balaton is a tart cherry variety originating in Hungary and increasingly grown in the US.  It is similar to Montmorency but much larger in size.  It is tart to the palate but excellent for processing into pies and preserves, similar to Montmorency.

BELLE MAGNIFQUE (H) June 10 – 15 (HYBRID)

Considered to be a “duke” cherry of a sweet/tart cherry hybrid, ‘Belle Magnifque’ is pinkish red to yellow in color.  Flesh is tender with colorless juice.  Excellent for eating out-of-hand or processing.  Appears to be a cross between the Mazzard and Morello-type cherries.

DANUBE June 10 - 15

Danube Tart cherry is one of the Erdi tart cherry varieties originating in Hungary.  One of the best tasting tart cherries with high dessert quality.  Flavor is sharp/sweet with a complex flavor.  Can be eaten fresh or processed.

JUBILEUM June 10 - 15

Jubileum is one of the “Erdi” tart cherry varieties introduced to the US from Hungary.  Perhaps the best tasting of the series, described as a sweet cherry flavor with an “edge”-- a pleasant tartness that defines the variety.  Excellent flavor and quality.  Tastes great as fresh fruit but can also be processed.

MONTMORENCY (H) June 15 - 20

Montmorency is the standard variety of tart cherry used for culinary purposes.  Excellent for pie fillings and preserves.   Acidic and tart when eaten fresh but processes into a richly flavored ingredient for many uses.

SCHATTENMORELLE (H) June 15 - 20

Schattenmorelle is an old variety of tart cherry that originated in Europe.  It’s a morello-type which is one with dark skin, flesh, and juice.  Considered to have the typical wild black cherry flavor.  Excellent morello flavor for culinary purposes.
